This 60 minute lecture will review the qualities of a Women's Health Clinical Specialist (WCS) practitioner and thought process needed to successfully pass the exam the first time.  We will discuss practical suggestions to organize your study schedule and focus the study materials.   Studying for a specialization examination is an amazing adventure which inevitably leads to better skills and advanced skill and knowledge.   However some are not ready for the adventure and some do not know how to structure study and learning for the examination.  Join us to learn more.

  • List the levels of exam questions and how to apply them to study techniques
  • Describe techniques of study for WCS

Elizabeth "Beth" Shelly, PT, DPT, WCS, BCB-PMD

Board certified in Women's Health and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Biofeedback

Beth has been working in the field of women’s health for over 35 years.  In 2004 Beth became on of the first Board Certified practitioners in Pelvic Muscle Dysfunction Biofeedback (PMD BCB) from the Biofeedback Association International Alliance (BCIA) and in 2007 she became board certified in Women's Health (WCS) with ABPTS.  She also completed her doctor of physical therapy at St Ambrose University, Davenport, IA in 2007.  Dr Shelly is one of the primary creators and past speaker for the Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Physical Therapy (CAPP-Pelvic) courses from 2005 to 2010. Beth has taught over 100 two or three day courses and given many more shorter lectures over the past 35 years in the field of pelvic rehabilitation to PT, OT, RN, NP, and MD throughout the US and internationally.  She has authored over 15 chapters in text books in the field of pelvic therapy and women's health.  Beth is the women's health editor for both "Pathology for Physical Therapists" and "Differential Diagnosis for Physical Therapists" text books.  An addition she has been active in setting standard terms and definitions with the International Continence society as past member of the Physiotherapy Committee and the Standardization Committee and an author and co-chair on three working groups.  In 2010 Beth started the Pelvic PT Distance Journal Club which now has over 1000 members all over the world and presents journal reviews monthly in English and Spanish.  For many years Beth has mentored those studying for the WCS exam and has developed many recorded study and educational programs for WCS preparation.  She has an active private practice in Moline, IL seeing all types of pelvic dysfunction and lymphedema.
