Curvature of the penis and penile deformity and the role of physiotherapy. This course will introduce Peyronie’s disease as a common condition, affecting 10% of men globally, but one that is rarely spoken about. What started off as a PhD in prostate cancer PFM training programs for urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction, took an unexpected bend in the road, when Jo received a knock on her clinic door from a very distressed former patient with a painful and curved penis. Curious and concerned, this led to realisation that there was massive gap in non-invasive treatment options for this confounding condition. Further investigation of research, of which there was not much, led to Jo exploring the role of therapeutic ultrasound and physical approaches to treatment. A subsequent randomized controlled trial evolved and Jo will present these finding, along with case studies and a pathway to deliver this Men’s Health service in your own clinic.

Objectives:

  • Introduction to Peyronie’s disease in men. Learn about the ‘’what’’, ‘’how’’ and ‘’why’’ of penile deformities in men and the impact this condition has physically and psychologically in the 10% of of men affected globally.
  • Physiotherapy help in Peyronie’s disease- what can we do to assist? Is there a role for Therapeutic Ultrasound and other physical applications?
