Dr. VanVelzen & Dr. Reul "Postpartum Return to Crossfit"

This course will focus on returning patients/clients to crossfit and other high level activities postpartum, including jump rope, box jumps, and squats. Screen for postpartum dysfunction including diastasis recti, pelvic organ prolapse, and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) will be covered as well orthopedic considerations including a lower quarter joint mobility and strength screen. We will discuss manual therapy techniques for common lower quarter joint restrictions as well as basic pelvic floor treatments.

 

Objectives:

Determine when your patient is ready to resume these high intensity exercises from an orthopedic PT perspective after a period of inactivity.

Be able to screen for pelvic dysfunction including: stress incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and diastasis recti.

Be able to identify when referral to a pelvic floor physical therapist is warranted.

 

Dr. Emily Reul, PT, DPT is a pelvic health physical therapist. She has trained with the APTA’s Academy of Pelvic Health. She is the owner of Wings Physiotherapy, Inc. and treats patients in Southern California. She is an active member of the Academy of Pelvic Health and California Physical Therapy Association. She also writes weekly blogs for myPFM. She enjoys working with athletes of all levels and helping women return to activities postpartum. Her passion is in helping runners with orthopedic injuries and pelvic floor dysfunction.

 

Dr. Reg VanVelzen, PT, DPT, OCS has been practicing in outpatient orthopedics since graduating in 2011. He also holds an orthopedic clinic specialist designation from the APTA, is director of physical therapy services of Integrity Rehab Salado Texas, and is the owner of Elevate Performance LLC. Reg is a former Canadian university football and field lacrosse player winning back to back national field lacrosse championships in 2005/2006. He enjoys working with post-op orthopedic patients, athletes, and weekend warriors wanting to stay fit and pain free.
