"Hello, please I need help with my pelvic floor. I'm 7 weeks 4 days postpartum and first time mom. Recently my perineum feels heavy and painful especially when I'm getting out of bed, so bad I'll subconsciously support my perineum with my hand on standing. It got worse when I started using a belly wrap and some stretch exercises. Please help, I need my pelvic sanityπππ" Jan 7th 2019
These were my exact words (a teaser to a bunch of other symptoms I was experiencing) to Jeanice Mitchell, President @myPFM and personally the beginning of my journey to the MyPFM Ambassador program. Being a 10 years practising Physiotherapist myself, having these symptoms caught me unawares because I had a vague knowledge of the pelvic floor muscle and how much their functionality impacted on the overall wellbeing of a woman especially once you start having babies. I felt completely lost and helpless in my body despite my professional knowledge. Jeanice responded to my distress call almost immediately, sending me several educative videos at no cost which helped me recover well.
I was amazed at how much is not taught during antenatal and postpartum checks and at how many women were in the same shoes I was ; maybe not intentionally from the healthcare givers but from lack of knowledge. I did realise it falls on the educated women folk to promote this cause to save several other women from issues around dysfunctional pelvic floor muscles and I decided to start sharing information from
myPFM.com and other pelvic health related bodies.
Signing up for the myPFM Ambssador Proplus program has increased my knowledge base on women's health generally, supported my vision of giving hope on pelvic health to all, has helped me to start my own virtual health clinic and also start up a women's health clinic in the hospital where I work. myPFM Ambassador program has also helped to promote and grow my business by providing the technical knowhow on growing businesses on social media, has increased my professional network across the globe with diverse health professionals I might not have contacted or worked with. The webinars have been very inspiring and educative with evidence based information of global standards at a very reduced cost. As an ambassador, you have several educative art works and videos to work with to impact the lives of men, women and children around you who are battling with pelvic health dysfunction.
Signing up for the myPFM Ambassador programs has been one of the best move I made in 2019. It is a good step to start with if you love to advocate for the woman population. Let's change the narrative of women's health across the globe. Together we can bring hope to all, one woman at a time.
